Perfect for use as a training tool, use a pull-and-RELEASE action, so that your pull turns the dog from the direction he’s going, towards you. Immediately, as he is redirected, release the pull, so the lead is slack. We have found that this tool works best with a 2’ or 4’ lead.
Use vocal praise when the dog looks at you with slack in the lead, reinforced if you wish, with a treat. Use a very small piece of some high-value food like cheese, hot dog, freeze-dried liver, whatever he loves, as long as its small. Your dog pulls you, you pull to redirect the dog, releasing the tension as soon as the dog has turned towards you, at which point you make sure he knows you think that’s the greatest thing he’s ever done. Be consistent in the redirect and use lots of praise.
The No-Pull harness does not keep the dog from pulling. It helps you convey that pulling is much less rewarding than not pulling. You should see some improvement pretty quickly. The time it takes to change a behavior greatly depends on how consistent you are. Well-exercised dogs learn faster than dogs with too much pent-up energy, but all dogs can learn to walk politely.
For very ‘reactive’ dogs, try practicing in the house where there are fewer distractions. Also, changing direction frequently keeps the dog thinking about you. Praise him for keeping up.
Collar and lead not included.

This really works. I have a 100# dog and this harness makes walking so much more pleasurable for both the dog and myself. I would highly recomend this harness, it's worth every penny.

Even though we'd trained loose-leash walking in puppy class, by 7 months my 65 lb Swissy was starting to throw her weight around in the traditional collar. Martingale-style (combo collars) just helped her pinch her throat while leaning. The No-Pull Harness prevents her from bringing her full weight onto the end of the leash-- like the difference between power steering and a stalled car!

This is THE answer for my yellow Lab and me. We just took our first walk around the neighborhood that didn't involve a struggle or misery for at least one of us. Had only practiced her in the yard a couple of times, and now we're free to enjoy walking as I have with other of my dogs for 20+ years.

I purchased a no-pull harness for my puppy, and when our trainer saw it, she ordered them for her big dogs. They make it easier for her young children to walk her dogs. She has recommended it for many of the dogs in class! They all seem calmer when it's on- maybe because their handlers have more confidence!! Love this product!

I was using the freedom harness but when it got too tight for my 80 pound German Shepherd I wanted something else, it didn't seem to make that much of a difference in him straining on the leash while we walked. This harness seems to make him much happier, maybe because it doesn't go around his neck like the others, it's so much easier to stop him now when he tries to chase a squirrel or greet another dog.
